In 1976, our Executive Director, Lawrence Jay, auditioned to play George Washington in his school play. While he didn't get the part and was given the role of the narrator instead, it wasn't until decades later that he wondered if maybe he didn't get cast as George Washington because he was Chinese. When Hamilton opened in 2015 with a Black George Washington, the musical was widely praised for its diverse casting of the Founding Fathers, yet there was controversy, not about "colorblind" casting, but in idolizing slave owners.

As part of our new ONLINE "Voices and Stories" series, Rolling Ridge will be looking at the diversity and controversy of the musical, Hamilton, as we use historical education and contemplative listening to open hearts and minds to the events that have shaped American society today.

Join us from 11 am to 1 pm on Monday, July 12th (the day that Alexander Hamilton was shot and killed), as we consider how the story of his life has given rise to important but complicated conversations about the legacy of the Founding Fathers and their portrayal on stage.

Though not required, please consider a suggested donation of "A Hamilton" ($10) to support the ongoing ministry of Rolling Ridge. Thank you.

Please check out our website for other events in our Voices and Stories series.
