Juneteenth

To build bridges of understanding, we must take time to listen to the experiences of others.

Rolling Ridge is launching "Voices and Stories" as a new ONLINE series that uses historical education and contemplative listening to open hearts and minds to the events that have shaped American society today.

Juneteenth (short for “June Nineteenth”) marks the day when federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas in 1865 to take control of the state and ensure that all enslaved people be freed. The troops’ arrival came a full two and a half years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. Juneteenth honors the end to slavery in the United States and is considered the longest-running African American holiday.

Join us on June 14th from 11 am to 1 pm to learn about Juneteenth. Following an overview of this aspect of American history, we will move into a time of contemplative sharing and reflective conversation as we consider the implications on Black Lives Matter and what we need to do to build bridges of understanding and to take a stand for justice.
