I'm Looking for a Spiritual Directorwith Rolling Ridge staff
To build bridges of understanding, we must take time to listen to the experiences of others.
Rolling Ridge launched "Voices and Stories" as an ONLINE series that uses historical education and contemplative listening to open hearts and minds to the events that have shaped American society today.
May is Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month. Although the Chinese have been in Boston area since 1870 (BEFORE the first wave of Italian immigrants), most do not associate "New England" with "Asian." The election of Michelle Wu as mayor of Boston may be changing that perception but members of the API (Asian Pacific Islander) community still struggle with marginalization and racism
Join us on Thursday, May 12th from 6:30-8:30 pm as we consider what it means to be "Asian in New England." We will provide a brief history of Asian immigration to Boston and have members of the Asian Pacific Islander Commission of the New England Annual Conference share about their stories of being API in New England and how race impacts their United Methodist faith. We hope to raise awareness of the diversity of Asian and Pacific Islander in the New England Conference through sharing specific stories. Scheduled speakers include Sela Rousseau and Jinwoo Chun.
Although there is no fee for this program, your generous donation allows Rolling Ridge to continue our mission and ministry of contemplative spirituality. Thank you.
This event is being co-sponsored by the Asian Pacific Islander Commission of the New England United Methodist Annual Conference.
Please check out our website for other events in our Voices and Stories series.
