Who is my neighbor? A Priest, A Rabbi, and A Reverend Walk into Rolling Ridge

Program Details

Our 2026 SoulCare Summit considers the question: "Who is my neighbor?" as we prepare for our 2026-2027 theme, In All Things, For Every One. Contemplative spirituality is not just a "navel gazing" experience but one where our contemplation leads to action as we recognize the Holy Presence in everyone and everything.

Join us for our Day Two event in our Soul Care summit as we look at: "A Priest, Rabbi, and Reverence walk into Rolling Ridge..." This panel conversation will invite us to explore the question, "Who is my neighbor?" from different faith perspectives and explore the roots of how religious traditions have treated the "other," especially marginalized communities. Rabbi Howard Mandell and Father Frank Sevola are among our panelists as we hear from Jewish and Catholic voices. You will be challenged and inspired and will come away with a deeper appreciation of ecumenism and the beauty of interfaith dialogue as a way forward amid the divisions in today's socio-political rhetoric.

We do not want costs to limit participation as we want all people in our community to join us. Thus, there is no registration fee for this event. It is being offered "by donation." Please pay whatever you can afford. The suggested gift is $25 to cover the meal. However, if you are able to give more to help offset expenses for another person, we would appreciate the generosity. Thank you.

Overnight options Friday and Saturday night are available with dinner and breakfast options to create a full weekend event connecting our Sunday event with our Saturday event, "Who is my neighbor? The Least of These." Add options upon registration. We hope that you will join us for the entire SoulCare 2026.

Overnight options to create a one or two night retreat for yourself:

* For one night = add $128 (includes dinner the night before at 6 pm, overnight in a private room, and breakfast the next day at 8 am)

* For two nights = add $256 (includes 2 dinners, 2 breakfasts, and 2 nights overnight in a private room.)

* For the full weekend, arrival on Friday after 3 pm. Departure on Sunday by 4 pm.

Overnight guests have the option to add one or more spiritual direction sessions or Reiki sessions to their stay. If you choose to add a spiritual direction or wellness session, we will connect you with one of our practitioners. Time to be arranged after registration.

* Spiritual Direction = $68 for one 45 minute session or $125 for two.

* Reiki = $50 for one 20 minute session or $90 for two.

About the Leaders

Rabbi Howard Mandell

Rabbi Howard Mandell attended and was ordained by The Jewish Theological Seminary in New York City. Prior to his having attended rabbinical school, he lived in Montgomery, AL, where he practiced constitutional and civil rights law for several decades. He has served as a board member and chair of the board of the Southern Poverty Law Center and has taught “social justice” as an adjunct professor at Merrimack College. Rabbi Mandell is completing his 13th year as the rabbi at Congregation Beth Israel in Andover, MA. He has made social justice, interfaith work, and spirituality important parts of his rabbinate. He is currently a member of the Institute for Jewish Spirituality and has successfully completed a year-long hospital residency program at Yale University Hospital in New Haven, CT. He has previously taught and led several programs here at Rolling Ridge.

Fr. Frank Sevola OFM

Father Frank Sevola, OFM has been a Franciscan Friar for 40 years and a priest for 35 years, working mostly in urban ministry. He currently serves as the Guardian (religious superior) at St. Anthony Shrine in Downtown Boston.

Larry Jay

As Executive Director, Rev. Dr. Lawrence Jay guides the vision and direction of Rolling Ridge. In addition to working with staff to ensure an outstanding guest experience, he collaborates with retreat leaders to deliver exceptional programming and is available to speak about the ongoing ministry and historic mission of Rolling Ridge as a place of rest, retreat, and transformation. A trained spiritual director and ordained American Baptist pastor, Larry (as he is known by friends) is a graduate of UCLA, Golden Gate Seminary, Franciscan School of Theology, American Baptist Seminary of the West, and the Gateways to God Missional Spiritual Direction Program. He is also Adjunct Faculty at Merrimack College in the Masters of Spirituality and Spiritual Direction programs and was interviewed about his ministry on Dan Lee's podcast. Eco-spirituality is his passion (and was his doctoral dissertation), encouraging everyone to live into the fullness of our connection with our True Self, nature, God, and all people.

Genevieve Hosterman

Rev. Genevieve Hosterman is the Associate Pastor of South Church, UCC in Andover. She and her husband are natives of Pennsylvania, who found their way to New England so that Genna could earn her Master of Divinity degree at Yale. Genna is passionate about the intersection of individual development and community, and the magic that comes from radical vulnerability and interdependence. She loves some good folk music and a warm drink on a rainy day.
