Program Details

To build bridges of understanding, we must take time to listen to the experiences of others.

Rolling Ridge launched "Voices and Stories" as an ONLINE series that uses historical education and contemplative listening to open hearts and minds to the events that have shaped American society today.

On March 24, 1980, Monseigneur Oscar Romero was assassinated while celebrating Mass. As Archbishop in El Salvador, he spoke out against social injustice and violence amid the escalating conflict between the military government and left-wing insurgents that led to the Salvadoran Civil War. In 2010, the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed March 24th as the International Day for the Right to the Truth concerning Gross Human Rights Violations and for the Dignity of Victims which recognizes, the legacy of Romero who was beatified as a Saint in 2015.

Join us on the eve of his assassination on March 23rd from 6:00-8:00 pm as we remember the life and legacy of St. Oscar Romero. We encourage you to join one of the local events on March 24th to take a stand for human rights, against social injustices that continue in our communities today.

Walter Francisco Mena will share about the life and legacy of this modern day saint and offer his own personal reflections about the impact Monseigneur Romero has had in his life as he now serves as chief activist of the Merrimack Valley Project.

Although there is no fee for this program, your generous donation allows Rolling Ridge to continue our mission and ministry of contemplative spirituality. Thank you.

Please check out our website for other events in our Voices and Stories series.
