I'm Looking for a Spiritual Directorwith Rolling Ridge staff
As 2027 begins, we invite you to begin the new year with "Compassionate Resistance."
How does one stay grounded and sane while resisting injustice and all that feels wrong in our society today? Thich Nhat Hanh taught that anger and love are both seeds inside each person; what we choose to feed will grow. Yet anger is a natural response to unfair treatment and threats to ourselves and others. So, how do we work with anger to transmute it into compassion, so that our actions of resistance come from a place of love?
During this retreat, Carrie Ives we will explore the 14 precepts of Engaged Buddhism, as taught by Thich Nhat Hanh, as well as the practices of the Brahma-Viharas — metta / loving-kindness, karuna / compassion, mudita / sympathetic joy, and uppekha / equanimity.
You are invited to join us one day - Saturday, January 9th, as we unpack the content for Compassionate Resistance.
We encourage you to expand your time away by joining for one or two overnights (Friday and/or Saturday). In the evenings, we will delve more deeply into practice —including silence— and have more time to share in community our struggles and supports. For those with no meditation experience, the Friday evening session will also provide additional instruction.
Prior experience with Buddhism is not necessary; all are welcome, of any faith or no faith background.
