The Enneagram as a Map in Spiritual Direction

Spiritual Direction is often the art of learning to let go of that which impedes one’s relationship with the divine and calling to service.  As Spiritual Directors and Companions, our role as deep, compassionate listeners is both to embody, through presence, our own alignment with the divine and to encourage others to deepen their own presence and restore Basic Trust in the divine.   One way we can do this is through the Enneagram.

The Listening Collective at Rolling Ridge invites you to join us January 27-29, 2026 for a retreat as we explore spiritual direction and the Enneagram.

The Enneagram is so much more than a personality tool! The ancient tradition of the Enneagram explains how we lose Basic Trust in divine presence. The loss of Basic Trust is the loss of the ability to be wholly present with the divine, others, and even one’s true self. Combined with the modern Enneagram of Personality and an understanding of brain function asymmetry, the Enneagram becomes a map that shows us the 9 ways we put ourselves and others in boxes and avoid the grace, found only in divine presence, which we need on our transformative journey to wholeness. Every person has an Enneagram Personality Type, the Point on the map where we tend to get stuck, but Personality Type does not define identity. The fullness of our identity lies in a dynamic relationship that encompasses awareness of all 9 points.  

Come spend three days learning the journey the Enneagram has taken into modern awareness and how the modern Enneagram of Personality relates to the more ancient and sacred Enneagram of Transformation. Connie Burianek will be our guide as we explore how each of the nine points reside within us, and how the loss of experienced, embodied presence with the divine causes a heart suffering and mental fixation at each point. Experience how the Enneagram becomes a map of how we try to avoid this suffering and, instead, inadvertently refuse the grace, healing, and wholeness that arise in alignment and presence with the divine. We will conclude our journey by experiencing the universal transitions of the Spiritual Journey found in walking the Enneagram.

COSTS:

* Full-time overnight = $390 includes all programming, recording of sessions, two overnights in a single room, and seven meals. (Tuesday lunch to Thursday lunch with the option "to go" or eat in)  Members of The Listening Collective should have received a discount code for 20% off or $78 off.
