I'm Looking for a Spiritual Directorwith Rolling Ridge staff
Times are still hard. “Devastating impacts” and “lasting effects” dominate the headlines. In every arena, people are tired and suffering: frontline workers, first responders, care givers, educators, business owners, farmers, congregations, families…you name it, the list keeps growing.
Most of us feel some measure of compassion for folks who are struggling. What if the one struggling is you? What would it be like to receive the same caring attention and support for yourself when you need it most? This is possible. This is available. A first step is the reminder that as a human being you too are a worthy recipient of compassion and care.
Burgeoning research shows that caring for ourselves through self-compassion is strongly associated with emotional well-being, coping with life challenges, lower levels of anxiety and depression, healthy habits like diet and exercise, and more satisfying personal relationships. Self-care through self-compassion is an inner capacity that enables us to be more grounded, more fully ourselves able to reach out and care more meaningfully for others.
“Self-Care Through Mindful Self-Compassion” is a 90-minute seminar followed by eight weekly midday 30-minute practice sessions called “Self-Compassion Breaks” where together we will introduce and apply some basic self-care practices of self-compassion. SC-MSC is an opportunity to explore how we typically respond when difficulties arise in our lives and to develop our God-given capacity for becoming a caring and supportive companion to ourselves and others through the practices of self-kindness, common humanity and mindfulness.
Self-care is vital in hard times.
Self-care is needed when facing challenges and difficulties.
