PRAY and PADDLE with the WISDOM OF ST. FRANCIS

Program Details

On the Feast Day of St. Francis, there is no better place to be than on Lake Cochichewick with Sister Water. Join us for a morning of contemplative paddling on Monday, October 4th. Facilitated by Kent Harrop, contemplative paddling by kayak or canoe immerses you in the splendor of nature as you become more aware of all that is around you and connect more deeply with God and creation. By paddling and drifting in silence you open yourself to the infinite ways that the Creator speaks.

NOTE: Only in the unlikely event of dangerous winds or storms will this event be canceled. Please dress accordingly, bring sunscreen and bug spray. Swimming is not allowed in Lake Cochichewick.

There are a limited number of participants allowed for this event. (8 boats). If canoes are not reserved, we will increase the BYO kayak limit, so please check occasionally if that option is sold out. We will meet at Lakeside Launch (follow the path located on the backside of the office). Please be physically able of getting into a kayak by yourself.

About the Leaders

Kent Harrop

Kent Harrop is an avid outdoorsman and an ordained American Baptist minister. He was introduced to contemplative paddling on a Zen meditation kayak trip to the Tongass Wilderness in Alaska in 2002. Since then, Kent has enjoyed guiding both novice and experienced kayakers and canoeists in the practice of "listening on the water."

A favorite verse of his is:

"Listen, and your soul will live." — Isaiah 55:3

Kent is a graduate of Andover Newton Theological School, the Shalem Institute for Contemplative Leadership, and the Franciscan Spiritual Direction Program. For 40 years, he pastored congregations. Currently, he leads Pray and Paddle events for Rolling Ridge, coordinates North Shore: SING (Spirituality in Nature Group), and serves as a Spiritual Director.
