The trend is clear.  Younger generations have been leaving the church for years.  Individual reasons may vary but the general trend leans towards a dissatisfaction and hypocrisy within institutional religion, especially around issues related to sexuality and inclusion.  Older progressives may say things are different in their congregation, but younger generations are often not having it.  Within the United Methodist church especially, the current rhetoric of disaffiliation and division creates barriers that Millennials often do not want to deal with.  They are done.

We invite you to join us on Thursday, September 28th from 11 am to 2 pm eastern for our fall "Listening Together" event as we focus on "Listening through the Millennial Divide".

“Listening Together” is for anyone who practices deep listening as a spiritual companion, anyone who listens others into Life.  This twice-annual gathering for spiritual director enrichment offers regular connections, pertinent conversations, and insightful resources to deepen and enrich our purposes and practices as deep listeners.

Our Fall gathering, “Listening through the Millennial Divide,” is drawn from Jackie Trotter Dove’s recent doctoral research focusing on Millennials, those persons born between 1980 and 1996.  She will offer a generative spiritual response for reclaiming and empowering this increasingly disconnected generation. We will explore characteristics and experiences of Millennials and consider ways that our deep listening can support and inspire the persons and potential of this generation.

This one-day event also serves as preparation for our inaugural "Deep Listening in the Neighborhood" training series as we focus on the "Great Age Divide" within institutional religion around issues related to sex, gender, and issues facing our LGBTQ neighbors.  Click here for more information.

"Listening Together" is now an online only event.

  • You can join us ONLINE via Zoom for $49.  (Listening Collective Member Price: $44**)
