DIRECTOR'S REFLECTIONS
Author Robert Benson developed a theory of life called "Rule of 21". Twenty one minutes is the longest one can go without being interrupted by a cell phone, pager, email, knock on the door. "Twenty-one days is the maximus number of days that one's life can go smoothly...Twenty-one weeks is the maximum amount of time I can go without some meaningful silence or my nerves get shaky".
He wrote his rule in 1998 and I think 21 is a bit off. Seems I get interrupted more often than 21 minutes.
But he's right about including the last rule- we do need times of silence, rest and reflection. We live in a noisy and fast paced world. Stress and pressure are common vocabulary choices.
I invite you to look at your calendar and schedule your Rule of 21 retreat at Rolling Ridge. We have some excellent retreat leaders lined up just for you.
As the sign on our entrance says, "Come away to a quiet place and rest awhile".
I look forward to greeting you.
- Larry
